Daffodil Fortune
Fortune
An heirloom that represented a breakthrough in breeding when it was introduced early in the 20th century. Daffodil aficionados paid as much as 500 pounds sterling to have it, a king's ransom at the time. Today, Fortune is widely available and moderately priced. And though it no longer appears on daffodil show benches, it is still valued for landscape plantings because its yellow and orange coloring carries a long distance and it is a reliable and enduring perennial.
Southern gardeners have their own reason to appreciate Fortune: It is willing to give a good display even along the Gulf Coast.
